General
This page contains general settings that affect the Cubase SX/SL user interface. Set these according to your preferred work methods.

Auto Save
If the Auto Save checkbox is activated, Cubase SX/SL will automatically save backup copies of all open projects with unsaved changes.

You specify how often a backup copy should be created with the Auto Save Interval setting.

Backup copies are named "Name.bak", where "Name" is the name of the project. The files are saved in the Project folder.

Unsaved projects are also backed up in the same way.

Backup copies of unsaved projects will be named "#UntitledX.bak" where "X" is an incremental number, to allow multiple backup copies in the same Project folder.

The Maximum Backup Files option allows you to specify how many backup files will be created with the Autosave function. When the maximum number of backup files is reached, the existing files will be overwritten (starting with the oldest file).

Show Tips
When this is activated and you position the pointer over an icon or button in Cubase SX/SL, an explanatory tool tip will be displayed after a second.

Use File Extension in File Dialog (Mac only)
Under Windows, file types are indicated by three letter file name extensions (such as *.cpr for Cubase SX/SL project files). Under Mac OS X, it is not necessary to use file name extensions, since the file types are stored internally in the files. However, if you want your Cubase SX/SL projects to be compatible with both platforms, make sure this option is activated. This will automatically add the proper file name extension (e.g. ".cpr" for project files) when you save a file.

Live Window Resize (Mac only)
Normally, when you click and drag to resize a window in the program you will see an outline of the new window size, and the window is only actually resized when you release the mouse button.

When this option is activated and you resize a window, you will instead see the window being resized "in real time" as you click and drag.

Maximum Undo
Allows you to specify the number of Undo levels.

On Startup
This pop-up menu allows you to specify what should happen each time you launch Cubase SX/SL. The following options are available:

Do Nothing
Cubase SX/SL launches without opening a project.

Open Last Project
The last saved project is opened on launch.

Open Default Project
The default project (the file "default.cpr" in the Cubase SX/SL application folder) is opened.

Show Open Dialog
The Open dialog appears on launch, allowing you to manually locate and open the desired project.

Show Template Dialog
The Template dialog appears on launch, allowing you to create a new project from one of the templates.

Show Open Options
Dialog
The Open Document Options dialog appears on launch, allowing you to make a different choice each time you launch Cubase SX/SL. For details, use the Help button in the dialog.



Usage Profile
If you'd like to help Steinberg evaluate how Cubase SX/SL is used and which functions seem to be the most important to users, you can activate this option. It is entirely voluntary of course, but it might help us in getting an idea of how to best develop the program further based on user preferences.

If the Usage Profile option is activated, actions you perform in the program will be saved in a logfile (named "Usage Profile.xml" which you can view in an ordinary text editor.

If you'd like to share this information with Steinberg, click "Send Usage Profile to Steinberg".

This requires that you have a working e-mail client program. Your e-mail program will open a new e-mail window, in which you then have to click "Send" to send the mail with the attached .xml file.

This will launch your Internet browser and take you to the Steinberg web page where you can read more about usage profiling.

Language
Allows you to select which language should be used in the program. After switching language, you need to restart the program for the change to take effect.
